Arts Matter was founded in 2003 by a museum educator and a former teacher, concerned about the plight of visual arts education in public elementary schools. With the help of teachers and arts educators, an art history based curriculum encompassing Language, Visual Arts and Social Sciences content standards was developed. Today, Arts Matter serves hundreds of elementary school students in the Los Angeles Unified School District with support from foundations and private funding.
