Students created a documentary film exploring their identity as shaped by important people in their lives. Students interviewed their family members asking questions about their history, culture, customs, and traditions. The documentary film students created functioned as a way for them to preserve their families' oral histories and practice storytelling through filmmaking.
Teachers at HPHS engaged in a professional development training focused on the discussion of Arts Integration. In our meetings, we discussed ways in which to integrate the filmmaking process into our Core Content classes to emphasize learning about identity. Given the small size of our staff, we were able to divide the work among each content area so that teachers' individual skills and talents were best used to support students throughout the identity film process.
