LOS ANGELES LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
lead teacher: LUCIA beltran
Students were encouraged to explore their identities and represent their characteristics through photography in the form of a self-portrait. Students were in control of the final works including shooting the photography itself, as well as the editing. In addition, students were also asked to use photography to create visual representations of their communities’ assets and present them to their audience.
I held a meeting with a few teachers and used the materials that I was given during the PST: LA/LA Professional Development sessions to advocate for the arts in our school. In addition, the meeting was organized as a workshop where I used examples of arts activities that fellow teachers could use in their own classrooms, regardless of the subject they teach. During the actual project, a colleague supported the students and became the co-teacher as the students worked through their ideas and became photographers and edited their images.
I am currently planning a showcase where I plan to use the remaining part of the grant. I plan to buy food for our guests and to celebrate the students' work.
