This year, students learned about Jose Posada and printmaking for Day of the Dead. They also learned about satire in Calavera Poems. They wrote poems and used the printmaking techniques they learned about through Jose Posada to create a print to go with their poems.
My colleagues were given a presentation on Jose Posada and printmaking that we found on the MOLAA website. I added some extra slides and images to tie the printmaking instructions to the slides about the history of printmaking. I also found and article about how printmaking images from Jose Posada were used often in Day of the Dead. I shared this article with them as well as a document I created for students to help them prepare for creating their images.
This has been an incredible experience! Thank you for investing in me and my students. -Amy Sy
